Recommended Reading and Reference Materials

Want to nerd out on the nitty gritty behind Kim’s approach to physical therapy and movement system trouble shooting? Get your nerd hat out and explore some of these materials that compile most of the peer-reviewed research that Kim’s approach is based on!

How What We Eat Can Influence How We Move

These titles have an excellent compilation of the research behind how diet and environmental exposures to toxins can influence pain, fatigue and difficulty with function. I often bring this research up and counsel patients to consult a naturopath and/or a dietician to begin to troubleshoot contributors to pain and difficulty with energy levels and physical function, POTS syndrome when the movement system exam data tests at or near normal without a corollary improvement in pain or function. How Our Mental Health, Nervous System and Trauma Can Influence How We Move

Trauma, stress, anxiety, psychiatric conditions, mental health difficulties or an over active sympathetic nervous system can influence movement by lowering the pain firing thresholds, training nerves and the brain to signal pain responses with normal amounts of stimulation and restricting breathing to the point that the stabilization system is no longer accessible. Here are the main texts and collections of research influencing Kim’s interventions for teaching patients how to reframe then restructure sensations, begin to experience a sense of safety with movement and physical activity and retrain guarding patterns present in the neuromuscular system.
